Since I was young, I have been a fan of the late night talk show, starting with Johnny Carson..I preferred Letterman over Leno....Like Conan over the Jimmies....James Cordon has his moments and I get my political news from Seth Myers. I think I preferred the Colbert character over the real Colbert...Honestly, I think my favorite talk today is on Youtube and called Hot Ones...Check it out... Celebrities are interviewed as they eat hot wings as they progressively get hotter...But I digress...
Over the years I have noticed a trend of most of the hosts that I prefer, and it may seem like a small thing. Today, I am not sure it is so small...I have noticed when they introduce a guest, they do so as..."Our next guest"... Carson and Letterman always made introductions as "our next" guest....Some others will make the introduction as "my next guest"... Leno was a "my next guest", as is Colbert... The one that does throw me off is Conan O'Brien. He is similar to Letterman and Carson in many ways, but he can also be a "my next guest" guy..
What does all of this mean and what impact does it have on World peace? Not sure it means much, but I do think there is a certain feeling we get when someone is more about WE than ME... When an introduction is made as "our next guest" do we feel more a part of the show? When it is "my next guest", are we more on the outside. Maybe subconsciously that is why I have preferred some over others.
In our current status outside of talk shows, is Trump an "Our next guest" or "My next guest"? Was Obama an "Our next guest" or "My next guest"? Probably not too much of a stretch to say Trump is a My (aka ME) and Obama is an Our (aka WE). So what, you may say....When we think and act WE, it is inclusive and caring...Coming from the ME is self absorbed and not necessarily considerate of impact on all...
So are you a Letterman or a Leno?
